Languages spoken by police officers (1)

Question by Steve O'Connell

Does the Metropolitan Police Service record the various languages which are spoken by police officers?

Answer by Sadiq Khan

The MPS Language and Cultural Services department offers officers the opportunity to provide details of language skills and volunteer to use these skills as part of non-evidential policing.

Currently there are 129 languages or cultural skills listed and 2297 registered speakers. Many of these individuals speak more than one language.

This is voluntary and does not reflect officers who may speak languages and have not provided details.
