We need the Mayor’s full support for flood prone areas of Sutton

For some areas of Sutton, winter does not only bring on colder weather, but also the real danger of flooding.  The wetter weather is not only a nuisance for these areas but could lead to serious damage to house and home. In some cases it has led to Londoners being left homeless for months.

With this much at stake we must do everything in our powers to help protect these flood prone areas. The previous Mayor Boris Johnson partnered with Thames Water, the Environment Agency and London Councils to create London’s first Sustainable Drainage Action Plan. This plan targeted London’s flooding hotspots and proposed innovative ways of diverting rain water into soil.

Sadiq Khan has not mentioned whether he will be continuing on this pioneering Action Plan. Even more importantly we need the Mayor to assure Londoners that he will do everything in his powers to support those affected by flooding and work to prevent future flooding. I will be raising this with the Mayor at the December Mayor’s Question Time and will be hoping to get some definitive plans outlined.
