Letter from Steve O’Connell, Croydon Guardian 11th May

I’d like to thank all those Croydonions who last week lent me their vote in the Greater London Authority election and assure them and importantly also those that didn’t support me that I will work flat out on their behalf in City Hall.

Despite the fact that undeniably both mayor party campaigns operated often in different parts of the borough, I am convinced that my record of working hard in the whole of Croydon would have earned me support borough-wide.

I don’t just spend my time in the north watching the Palace but also supporting residents and their campaigns.

I am certainly here to represent everyone.

Now my job is to buckle down and work with the new mayor for the benefit of my boroughs.

I have no doubt that from my end I can build a positive relationship across party lines as I have done here in Croydon for your benefit.

We need to crack on and deliver new transport investment, keep crime down and maintain police visibility, and build more homes for our young people whilst protecting our green spaces.

Sadiq Khan’s mayoralty will have major influence over the lives of all our families and businesses.

I am proud and humbled to be elected to represent you in City Hall and work to ensure that Sadiq treats Croydon and Sutton fairly and generously.
