LIP Funding

I was delighted to read in your article ‘TfL pours £7.6m into upgrading transport around Croydon’ that the borough has received a big boost in its transport infrastructure.

The investment comes from Local Implementation Plan (LIP) funding, cash handed to boroughs by TfL for designated local transport projects.

This vital source of finance appeared under threat recently when the Mayor of London seemed reluctant to commit to its future.

I was extremely relieved then when he confirmed at the recent Mayor’s Question Time that LIP funding would stay the same for the next financial year and that it would be ‘very fair’ for boroughs to assume it would not change in future years.

Investment in local transport infrastructure is essential to attracting people to live and work in Croydon, thereby growing the local economy.

I look forward to seeing more news of investment in our thriving borough.
